Updated: Oct 6

Scott Teresi, past president and owner of Right at Home, a large home care company serving Orange and Dutchess Counties, will discuss how to find a caregiver, what to look for in a caregiver, and options for paying for in-home care in his presentation the Eldercare Primer.

This Eldercare Primer is designed to help families better understand the complexities of caring for aging loved ones. The presentation explores:

  • What Eldercare Is – Assistance with daily and instrumental activities of living, often related to physical or cognitive decline.

  • Triggers for Care – Events such as falls, heart conditions, or Alzheimer’s/dementia that create an immediate need for support.

  • Care Environments – From hospitals and rehab centers to assisted living, nursing homes, and home care, with explanations of how each is funded (Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, or insurance).

  • Types of Home Care – The distinction between in-home non-medical care (safety, nutrition, companionship) and medical home health care (nursing and therapy services).

  • Real-Life Scenarios – Case journeys highlighting how different triggers and transitions shape the care path.

  • Additional Resources – Guidance from elder law attorneys, geriatric care managers, and financial planners to help families plan effectively.
